Band Camp

In this, our 49th summer, we are as committed today as in the past, of providing the best in music instruction in a beautiful outdoor setting in northern Michigan. The Wolverine Band Camp staff, counselors, and instructors are focused on providing students with experiences that up lift, challenge, inspire, and encourage. For seven days everyone at camp joins in an attitude of joy and fun whether in rehearsals, walking the trails enjoying nature, taking on the adventure of the climbing wall and zip-line, or taking a refreshing tube on the Sturgeon River. So we look forward to another year of shaping young lives, preparing them for their magnificent journey! Enrollments are limited per instrument so register early.  Open to students entering the 7th - 9th grades in fall of 2016.

Camp Session Details:

2017 Session is June 18-24 2017 (7 days/6 nights). Cost: $475 per student. A Registration fee of $125 is required and is non-refundable after June 1st. Camp Director:

Christopher Charboneau This will be Chrisís 29th summer at Wolverine. He is the Music Director at the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy. He has a B.M.E. from Northern Michigan University and an M.A.T. from Marygrove College. During his 24 year teaching career, Chrisís high school and middle school bands have consistently earned first division ratings at District and State band festivals. He serves as an adjudicator for the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, as well as a guest conductor and clinician throughout the state.

Camp Staff:

Melissa Wakeley-Sapienza- This will be Melissaís 17th summer as our trumpet instructor. She is currently teaching elementary music and high school choir in the Farwell Public Schools. She holds both her bachelors and masters degrees form Central Michigan University and continues to perform with the C.M.U. Brass Band and the Paradigm Brass Quintet.

Katie Kollias- Katie will be our bassoon and oboe instructor and also coordinates the camps master classes. This will be her 9th year at Wolverine. Katie directs choral and instrumental ensembles at Norwich Technical High School in Connecticut.

Patrick Booth- This will be Patís 8th year as our saxophone instructor. He holds a music education degree from C.M.U. and a masterís degree in Jazz saxophone performance from the University of Michigan.  He teaches saxophone at Michigan Tech University.

Dr. Steven Kandow- This will be Stevenís 8th year as our low brass instructor. He is currently the Director of the Marching Band at the University of St. Francis. Steven holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trombone performance and a Master of Music degree in Conducting from Michigan State University, as well as a B.M.E. from Central Michigan University.

James DeVoe- This will be Jamieís 7th year as our French horn teacher. He is in his 9th year of teaching band in Michigan. He is a band director in the Grand Rapids Public Schools.

Kristen Zelelnak- This will be Kristenís 6th summer as a counselor and saxophone assistant. She has a music education degree from C.M.U. and a Masterís degree from Michigan State University. She is currently teaching middle school band in Texas.

Alexander Kollias- This will be Alexís 5th summer as our clarinet instructor. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Music degree, with an emphasis in clarinet performance and a minor in instrumental conducting, at the Hartt School in Connecticut.

Emily Morgan-Booth - This will be Emilyís 5th summer as our flute instructor. She is the Director of Bands at Bothwell Middle School in Marquette.
Seth Kilbourn-
This This will be Sethís 4th summer as our percussion instructor. He has been the Instrumental Music Director in the Roscommon Schools for the past 21 years. He also performs in a jazz quartet, classic rock band and acoustic duo.

Matt Bishop-  This will be Mattís 4th summer at camp as an instructor. Matt is the Director of Bands in the Grayling Public Schools and is in his 30th year of teaching and is an adjudicator for the M.S.B.O.A.

KC Perlberg-  This will be K.C.'s second summer at Wolverine.  He has a B.M.E. from M.S.U. and is currently the Director of Bands at Rita Cascia High School in Chicago.

Megan Lickman-  Megan will assist with the low brass section and is also a counselor.  This is her 7th year at camp.  She has a B.M.E. from Central Michigan University.

3:00-5:00 Orientation, supper, class placement for theory, chair placements, swim test.
5:00-10:30 Supper, rehearsal, mixer, snack time, dorms
